8 pm Ísafold Chamber Orchestra and Schola cantorum - Schnittke’s fourth symphony
Ísafold Chamber Orcehstra, a group of twenty young talents, and Schola cantorum, Hallgrímskirkja’s chamber choir of 15 singers, perform Alfred Schnittke’s fourth symphony. Conductor: Daníel Bjarnason.
Alfred Schnittke’s fourth symphony was written in 1984 and has strong religious conoctations, combining melodies from four different religions: Judaism, Russian Orthodox Church, Protestantism and Roman Catholic Church and is sung in Russian. The text istaken from 10th century script “Book of Lamentations” by Armenian poet Gregory of Naser.
