Olivier Latry

Olivier Latry is the grand organist of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and a professor of the organ at the Paris Conservatory.

At only 23, Latry got a position at this grand cathedral of France, his new position propelling him into the international scene. He has since performed in over fifty countries in five continents, both as a soloist and with orchestras. His extensive list of recordings includes the complete organ works of Olivier Messiaën, published by Deutsche Grammophon, Poulenc´s organ concert and Saint-Saën´s 3. Symphony which he performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and director Christoph Eschenbach (Ondine). Recent CDs published under the French label Naïve are one where Latry plays Erard´s pedal piano (1853) from the Paris Museum of Music and another dedicated to his forerunners (Trois siècles d’orgue à Notre-Dame de Paris or Three Centurys of the Organ in the Notre-Dame of Paris).

Latry has been granted numerous prizes for his playing, amongst them “Fondation Cino et Simone Del Duca” in 2000, “Fellowship Honoris Causa” from North and Midlands School of Music in the UK in 2006 and from the Royal College of Organists in 2007. He was also nominated “Interntional performer of the year” by the American Guild of Organists in New York in 2009. In June 2010 he was made “Doctor Honoris Causa” at the Montréal University and organiste émérite at the Montréal Symphony Orchestra in 2012.
