Guðrún hefur einnig sinnt sýningarstjórn, og byrjaði m.a. með sýningaröðina Kristin minni í Hallgrímskirkju árið 2009. Nýr sýningastjóri kirkjunnar, Þóra Sigurðardóttir, skoraði á Guðrúnu að takast nú sjálf á við það verkefni. Um verk sitt Vatn segir Guðrún:

Ég valdi vatn sem viðfangsefni til að minna okkur á mikilvægi vatns í lífríkinu, mikilvægi þess í umhverfi mannsins og allri menningu. Engir tveir vatnsdropar eru eins. Hver og einn hefur sína sérstöku formgerð. Í Kristnihaldi undir Jökli segir Jón prímus: „Ég hef þá teoríu að vatn sé gott“.

Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir has worked at her art for over twenty years and exhibited widely in Europe, America, and Asia. Through her art she has managed to create a singular vision of nature which she conveys through paintings, prints, and video works as well as large murals and installations. She has sought to render the motion and cyclic volatility of nature, with its tug-of-war between momentary still patterns and the flow of unstable systems.

In recent years she has created large installations in China, her latest being the permanent public artwork The Wall for an old neighborhood in the heart of Beijing. The Wall, which measures 48 m2, is a mural in ash and powdered glass.

Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir has also worked as a curator and initiated, among other things, the exhibition series Christian Motifs at Hallgrímskirkja in 2009; now, at the urging of the church’s new curator, Thóra Sigurðardóttir, she takes on the challenge herself. Of her work Water Kristjánsdóttir writes:

I chose water for my subject to remind us of water’s importance in the biological and human environments and in all our culture. No two water droplets are alike; each one is unique in form. In the Halldór Laxness novel Christianity under the Glacier Jón Primus says, “My theory is that water is good.”
